“I enjoyed the Soiree even more this year than last year and the food was absolutely delicious.”

IN THE RED: Cash raised went to the Canadian Red Cross's Lower Mainland Disaster Management Program. But there were no catastrophes when the third Red Carpet Soiree ran in the Blue Water restaurant Thursday. The joint was packed. So were platters of executive chef Frank Pabst's 20 different nibblies. Crispy nori seaweed cones stuffed with tuna tartare and sesame seeds debuted, as did spring-pea puree with truffled pecorino cheese in phyllo shells. Less appetizingly, Red Cross provincial director Kimberley Nemrava said increasing winter disasters, spring freshets and summer wildfires need twice the organization's 500 trained volunteers. But, with cash sparse, "when we go into a response, we have to start fundraising to support that response."
